In brief

North Northamptonshire is one of two main council areas in Northamptonshire. It is a unitary authority area forming about one half of the ceremonial county of Northamptonshire, England. It was created in 2021, with 15 fewer councillors in line with its fewer residents. Its notable towns are Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Rushden, Desborough, Rothwell, Irthlingborough, Thrapston and Oundle. The council is based at the Corby Cube in Corby.

It has a string of lakes along the Nene Valley Conservation Park, associated heritage railway, village of Fotheringhay which has tombs of the House of York as well as a towering church supported by flying buttresses. This division has a well-preserved medieval castle in private hands next to Corby – Rockingham Castle – and about 20 other notable country houses, many of which have visitor gardens or days

What to expect

Housing Delivery Test

No Action required within the 2021 Housing Delivery Test.

Up-To-Date Local Plan

The Adopted North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy was Adopted by the Joint Planning Committee on the 14th July 2016.

Customer Service

Customer service at North Northamptonshire is sporadic and very officer dependent with some acting silently and only commenting when they receive complaints with the more senior officers acting in a more professional manner.

Decision Making Behaviour

Decision making behaviour is also inconsistent with established practice. Planning officers appear unable or unwilling to exercise planning judgement over statutory consultee’s and have little to no sway over the behaviour of the planning committee. In recent times however the scheme of delegation has changed and this should allow more applications to be dealt with through delegated (officer) authority.

In recent experiences a cycling strategy is the only effective way of securing an appropriate planning decision as Planning Officers will be consistent with previous decision making.
